3. Arguments in a challenge to a law banning TikTok are set for this September. The US wants the app sold from its Chinese-owned company by January or faces being removed from US app stores. TikTok reps shared, “There is no question: the Act will force a shutdown of TikTok by January 19, 2025, silencing the 170 million Americans who use the platform to communicate in ways that cannot be replicated elsewhere.” (CBS)
4. Fiji Water has voluntarily recalled over 78,500 cases — amounting to nearly 1.9 million bottles — after testing revealed the presence of manganese and three strains of bacteria. The recall only affects specific lots of water that were sold at Amazon. According to the CDC, the most common health problems in people exposed to high levels of manganese involve the nervous system – which include movements that may become slow and clumsy. (FW)
5. A year after five people were killed in the OceanGate submersible tragedy, another billionaire is planning to make his own trip to the Titanic. Ohio tycoon and adventurer Larry Connor and Patrick Lahey, co-founder of Triton Submarines, say they’ll only go once a vessel is fully certified by a marine organization. (BBC)
