1. Sen. Sen Collins reiterated her support for Israel as violence escalates in the Middle East. Collins told WMTW she’s been in touch with the Department of Defense to figure out how the U.S. can best support Israel. “They murdered people going door to door, they massacred young people at a dance, they’ve kidnaped babies and mothers and grandparents in wheelchairs. There is nothing that they won’t do. So, the United States must stand strong behind Israel, our closest ally in the region and the one true democracy,” Collins said. (WMTW)
2. Carlee Russell, the Alabama woman who admitted to faking her kidnapping, was found guilty of two misdemeanors. Russell was sentenced to one year in jail and $18,000 in fines. Her attorney said an appeal would be filed to help Russell avoid jail time. (CNN)
3. A school bus caught fire in Buxton yesterday. Crews were able to extinguish the flames afar before moving in closer through the smoke. Fire officials say the driver and a mechanic were the only people on the bus at the time. (WGME)
4. American Airlines will start direct service from Portland International Jetport to New York’s LaGuardia Airport beginning in June. The new service will offer two flights daily and be the sixth nonstop destination that the airline offers from the jetport. (PH)
