For the second consecutive meeting, the Portland City Council voted down an emergency order that would have temporarily expanded the “Homeless Services Center” on Riverside Street by 50 beds for three weeks until a new shelter opens. 4. It’s Teen Driver Safety Week, AAA says 60% of teen crashes are caused by distracted driving. The top two distractions are having passengers in the car and being on the phone. According to MaineDOT data, there were 14 teen driver deaths last year in Maine among the 3,500 crashes with a teen at the wheel. (WGME)
5. The 2028 LA Olympics will see some new competitions in the spotlight. Several disciplines, like baseball/softball, lacrosse, and cricket, have previously been on the Olympic stage. Flag Football and squash will debut at the 2028 Summer Games.
