1. A new report estimates that Maine will need roughly 84,000 new homes by 2030 to solve the state’s housing shortage. The estimate accounts for an existing shortage and an increasing population. (WMTW)
2. The biggest homeless encampment in Portland will soon be cleared out. The Maine DOT says any tents left at the Marginal Way park-and-ride on November 1 will be removed. The city says there are currently about 90 tents around the parking lot. Police hope this will curb a rise in crime there. (WGME)
3. Buxton police say a 19 year-old and 20 year-old have been arrested in relation to roughly a half-dozen reports of BB gun or pellet rifle shootings in Gorham, Scarborough, and Buxton. (WMTW)
4. The CDC is stopping the production of the white COVID vax cards. 980 million cards have been distributed since 2020 through this May. The cards will still be an official COVID immunization record, but many locations no longer require it. (ABC)
5. No Powerball ticket matched all six numbers last night. As of early this morning, Powerball.com showed the jackpot for Saturday’s drawing is an estimated $1.4 billion, before taxes. The odds of winning the jackpot are 1 in 292.2 million. (WMTW)
