1. A Waterboro man is accused of intentionally crashing his car into a side-by-side ATV Saturday that was being driven by a 17-year-old boy. His excuse; they were “ripping up the road.” The driver of the ATV, along with two other passengers, complained of minor injuries but refused medical attention. (WMTW)
2. A Facebook post on Saturday by Fryeburg Fair organizers announced that the fair would be implementing metal detectors to screen for weapons, and asked fairgoers to leave them in their vehicles. The post has nearly 1,500 comments, with many frustrated or even boycotting the fair even though weapons have not been allowed on fairgrounds for several years. (WGME)
3. Bonny Eagle is the first school district east of the Rocky Mountains to utilize school buses fueled by renewable propane. Renewable propane is typically made out of things like used cooking oil, vegetable oil, and animal fat, but is chemically identical to regular propane. Propane buses emit up to 96% less harmful emissions than diesel buses. (WMTW)
4. World-famous astrophysicist Dr. Neil deGrasse Tyson has accepted the invitation to speak at Unity Environmental University’s spring commencement ceremony. Unity is set to graduate more than 1,000 students for the first time ever during the commencement on May 23 at Merrill Auditorium in Portland. (WGME)
5. Once one of America’s most iconic retailers, K-Mart will close its last full-size store, located in Bridgehampton, New York, on October 20th. There’s still a mini K-Mart in Miami. In its 90s’ heyday, there were around 2,300 locations employing 350,000 K-Mart employees. (NYP)
