I’m getting ready to have a slumber party at the Animal Refuge League of Greater Portland!
On September 25th, I’ll will be participating in the ARLGP’s Shelter Sleep-In, spending the night at the shelter to raise money for animals in need.
To help prepared for the big night, I recently chatted with Matt Blanchard from the Animal Refuge League about the Shelter Sleep-In and the important work happening at the ARLGP year-round.
The Animal Refuge League is the open-admission shelter for 16 Southern Maine communities and is entirely privately funded. Donations help provide shelter, medical care and adoption support for animals in need, while also funding programs designed to help families keep their pets at home. Those programs include a pet food pantry, behavior and training resources and low-cost veterinary care through the Community Clinic at Baxter.
I also got to meet one of the shelter’s newest residents: Wonton! She and her littermates were transported to Maine from an overcrowded shelter in Georgia through the ARLGP’s safety net program. They’re now getting the care they need while they wait for their forever homes!

I’m hoping to raise at least $5,000 through the Shelter Sleep-In, but the goal is to raise as much as possible to help support animals like Wonton and the thousands of pets who rely on the ARLGP every year.
Want to help me support the Animal Refuge League? Every donation makes a difference.
You can also stop by the Animal Refuge League on September 25th from 5pm–7pm to check out the kennel decorations, meet the Shelter Sleep-In participants and support the cause in person!
Listen to our interview below to learn how you can help more animals like Wonton find the care, love and forever homes they deserve.
