Eminem’s former sound engineer has now taken accountability for stealing and selling Em’s unreleased music. 48-year-old Joseph Strange pleaded guilty to criminal copyright infringement. Strange worked at a recording studio in Ferndale, Michigan, from 2007 until 2021, where he had direct access to the unreleased tracks.
In January 2025, over 25 stolen songs hit the web after Strange sold the music to individuals who then leaked it online. The FBI launched an investigation after several studio employees discovered the leak and quickly contacted authorities.
Strange was initially charged with copyright infringement and interstate transportation of stolen goods, and he now faces up to 5 years in prison.
