1. The New York Times and other newspapers have picked up on speculation that U.S. Sen. Susan Collins of Maine might be considered as a running mate for GOP presidential candidate Donald Trump. Collins says she is honored that her name has come up but she doesn’t believe she’ll be asked to join the Trump ticket. (BD)
2. A federal lawsuit claims Starbucks regularly overfills its cold drinks with ice instead of using the advertised amount of coffee or other liquid in its plastic cups. The lawsuit seeks class-action status, which could allow it to cover customers for the last decade. Among other things, the lawsuit seeks damages, restitution and attorneys’ fees. (CNBC)
3. After the failure of various efforts to expand casino gaming in Maine, Oxford Casino owner Churchill Downs announced Friday that it plans to build a $25 million, 100-room hotel attached to the casino that opened in 2012. The announcement puts the casino — the second to open in Maine — on track to go from having no adjacent lodging to almost 200 rooms on-site or across the street by 2017. Construction of a 93-room Hampton Inn is scheduled for completion this year. (BD)
