1. At least 50 people were killed and 53 wounded after a gunman stormed a gay nightclub in Orlando, Florida, on Sunday morning, making it the deadliest mass shooting in the U.S. and the nation’s worst terror attack since 9/11. American-born 29-year-old Omar Mateen carried an assault rifle and a pistol into the venue at about 2 a.m. and began shooting. He also called 911 during the attack to pledge allegiance to ISIS. A community vigil was held Sunday night in Monument Square. Members of Maine’s LGBT community and its allies showed support following the attack. 2. “Hamilton,” the hip-hop stage biography of Alexander Hamilton, won 11 Tonys last night including the 2016 Tony Award for best new musical. It was just short of breaking the 12-Tony record held by “The Producers.” (PH)
3. Donald Trump has postponed a rally planned for today in Portsmouth. “Due to the horrific tragedy that has just taken place in Orlando, Florida, Mr. Trump is postponing the rally” his campaign said late Sunday. (WMTW)
4. The Pittsburgh Penguins earned their fourth Stanley Cup in franchise history by beating the San Jose Sharks 3-1 last night in California. Penguins captain Sidney Crosby, who had 19 points in 24 games–including two assists in the decisive Game 6–was named the Stanley Cup Playoff MVP. (Post)
5. Portland’s Old Port Festival drew around 50,000 people Sunday. It was the festival’s 43rd year, and it once again featured a parade, rides and music. (WCSH)
