One of the more surprising things i’ve learned about Portland when i first moved here was the amount of local talent i came across. It’s inspiring to see the amount of local bands in the area doing their thing and spreading their passionate love for music around Maine.
This one in particularly stuck out to me; a band called Toxic Cross, a death metal band from Central Maine. Originally known as Terrible Old Man, the band reformed in 2006 under their new moniker ready to once again unleash their blistering noise upon the masses.
The 5-piece group features Ryan Fairfield as vocalist, James Violette and Dustin Boudreau on guitars, Eddie Tardiff on bass, and Coby Violette on drums. Together they craft a unique mix of metal subgenres to create their own signature sound: an amalgamation of blasting death metal, old school thrash, and melodic progressive metal.
Toxic Cross is currently writing and recording a new EP in their bassist’s home studio, periodically releasing new singles online to build anticipation. Their next single, “Born in Rapture,” will be available on Halloween Day at www.toxiccross.com
Toxic Cross has had the honor of sharing the stage with many national acts, including: The Black Dahlia Murder, Obscura, Mushroomhead, Goatwhore, and many more. The band continues to play throughout New England. Their next show is with the Boston thrash metal act Lich King at Geno’s in Portland, Maine on Wednesday, November 2nd. All heshers are encouraged to come and bang their heads.
