1. Eighteen-year-old Darius Minor of Locus Grove, Va., a first-year football player, died during a campus workout Tuesday at the University of Maine in Orono. He was in his third week of Maine’s freshman workouts and was taking a summer course. “Words cannot express the grief that we have following this tragic loss. Our thoughts and prayers go to Darius’ family and friends during this terrible time,” UMaine head football coach Joe Harasymiak said in a prepared statement. (PressHerald)
2. In the second day of the trial of a former Kennebunk High School health teacher facing 14 counts of sexual assault, sexual abuse of a minor, and misconduct, the alleged victim took the stand. During the cross-examination Tuesday morning, the boy, now 19-years-old, said he lied and denied any sexual or inappropriate contact with Jill Lamontagne when asked about it by school officials during an initial investigation in March 2017. No charges were filed at the time and the boy said the relationship continued. A text message was also brought before the jury by Kennebunk Police Detective Steve Borst, a lead investigator on the case. The text was allegedly sent to the boy by Lamontagne and contained a screenshot of a song by country artist Chris Young entitled “Who I Am With You,” accompanied by a text saying, “Listen to the words.” (NewsCenterMaine)
3. A man was arrested at a New Hampshire Planet Fitness after entering the facility, stripping naked and proceeding to do yoga, according to police. Eric Stagno, 34, of Haverhill, MA, took off his clothes at the doors of the Planet Fitness then began to walk back and forth. He eventually headed to the yoga mats, where police found him on his knees in a yoga position. Stagno, police said, told them he thought it was a “judgment-free zone,” referring to the Planet Fitness slogan. (NewsCenterMaine)
