This news comes as no surprise. Less than a month from when the event was supposed to happen, Woodstock 50 has officially been cancelled once and for all. Michael Lang, a cofounder of the original three-day concert says they pulled the plug after attempting to move the event to Maryland rather than in New York.

In a statement, Lang said, “We are saddened that a series of unforeseen setbacks has made it impossible to put on the festival we imagined with the great line-up we had booked and the social engagement we were anticipating.”

Artist after artist started pulling out of the event such as Miley Cyrus, Carlos Santana, Jay-Z, Dead & Co. and John Fogerty. The festival has released all of the talent that it has booked from their contracts, hoping that they’d play a free event in Maryland on a voluntary basis, which obviously did not work out.

Lang says he encourages artists and agents “who all have been fully paid, to donate 10% of their fees to HeadCount or causes of their choice in the spirit of peace.” It would be nice to see some of the artists donate their money to a good cause to make light of this event.

It’s unfortunate that organizers couldn’t recover from setback after setback. But, it’s definitely better than the organizers going through with the event, which can best be described by this tweet:
