1. On Thursday, China announced that there were no new local coronavirus cases for the first time in three months. 34 new cases were reported, but all of those were people who caught the virus outside the country. “It’s very clear that the actions taken in China have almost brought to an end their first wave of infections,” said one expert. 2. There are 42 cases of coronavirus in Maine as of Wednesday. Gov. Janet Mills issued an Executive Order on Wednesday mandating that all restaurants and bars statewide close to dine-in customers effective 6 p.m. Wednesday until March 31. Take-out, delivery, and drive-through options can continue. Mills also prohibited all gatherings of more than 10 people until further notice. (WGME)
3. About 4,900 Mainers filed unemployment claims with the state Department of Labor between Sunday and Tuesday. The spike in claims is almost double those filed last March, according to state data. (PRESS HERALD)
4. The United States and Canada agreed Wednesday to temporarily close their shared border to nonessential travel to confront the coronavirus pandemic, bringing a halt to tourism and family visits but leaving the flow of trade intact. (PRESS HERALD)
