1. The United States coronavirus cases top 1,228,000. America’s death toll stands at more than 73,400. President Trump affirmed that he believes the number of reported US deaths from coronavirus is correct, but says he doesn’t believe the numbers being reported by “other countries.”
2. According to the Maine CDC’s Wednesday briefing another Mainer has died of coronavirus. 28 new cases were reported. Maine’s statewide is 1,254 cases and 62 deaths. There are 426 active cases in the state. The new total does not include 14 of the 51 cases at Tyson Foods in Portland. Testing is now completed at the plant and the results will be included in Thursday’s case report.
3. Gov. Janet Mills signaled on Wednesday that she is considering changes to her reopening plan, including allowing more outdoor activities – such as seating for restaurants and sales of merchandise – as well as permitting rural areas to open more quickly. Mills did not provide any details but indicated there may be some changes to the plan in the next few days.
4. The Bridgton Drive-In will host the Oxford Hills High School graduation on June 21. Families will be able to bring one vehicle which they’ll decorate. Pomp and Circumstance will play across the big screen along w/ images of students in their caps and gowns. Other school districts are considering similar plans for the Class of 2020.
5. Wallethub is out with its rankings of the best U.S. states for working moms in 2020. Based on such factors as gender pay gaps, childcare quality and childcare costs. Massachusetts was ranked #1. Maine and Newhampshire ranked 8 and 9 respectively. Lousianna ranked last. Maine was second in lowest gender pay gap and third in highest female to male executive ratio.
