NHL commissioner Gary Bettman announced the league’s plan to resume the 2019-20 season on Tuesday. Bettman called the regular season over, and said the top 24 teams will be split into the top 12 from each conference for the playoffs. Teams will be placed in separate “hub cities” for the Stanley Cup Playoffs, which will run through summer into early fall. The top 4 teams in each conference will play a round-robin tournament to determine playoff seeding. Matchups for the other 8 teams in each conference are already announced. All plans are subject to testing abilities for players and other personnel, as well as governmental regulations. Players will quarantine away from family members in the hub cities for some time.
