1. President Trump will hold his first rally of the pandemic era on June 19 in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Critics think the date and location are a slap in the face to black Americans. June 19 is known as Juneteenth, a day that commemorates the end of slavery in the U.S. And in 1921 in Tulsa, white mobs attacked black citizens and businesses with guns and explosives dropped from airplanes. Trump officials are unlikely to enforce social distancing or the use of face coverings at the event. (POLITICO)

2. Portland police say they stationed officers on the rooftops of downtown buildings at last week’s anti-racism protests after learning that armed counter-protesters planned to attend the rally. Cmdr. James Sweat said “They actually did show up. They were actually armed. We intercepted them before they made it there.” Madison Raymond, the Portland resident that raised the issue, said “My honest opinion is that they’re using the narrative of outside agitators to justify the concentration of police resources.” (PRESS HERALD)

3. Despite President Donald Trump’s vow that he would not rename military bases that honor Confederate generals the GOP-led Senate approved a plan that would remove the names of Confederate figures from military bases. Maine U.S. Sen. Angus King tweeted a photo of the Ulysses S. Grant statue in the Capitol Rotunda, and said, “No military base bears his name, but we have ten Army bases named for Confederate generals. Yesterday, the Senate Armed Services Committee took a bipartisan step to end this divisive legacy.” (NEWS CENTER)

4. The U.S. Coronavirus cases top 2 million. America’s death toll stands at more than 113,000. Maine reported 30 new cases of coronavirus Thursday but no additional deaths. The statewide death toll stands at 100 with 2,667 cases of which 505 are active. Over 2,000 mainers have recovered. Gov. Janet Mills has extended her declaration of a state of civil emergency, this time through July 10, enabling Maine to keep getting federal funds for coronavirus response. (PRESS HERALD)

5. Sony unveiled their new Playstation 5 on Thursday. It’s the company’s first console since the PS4 came out in 2013. The new PS5 hardware shows a curved white exterior with black accents. It will come in editions with or without a hard drive. Pricing and release date have not yet been revealed.(UPI)
