1. As part of a “joint travel advisory” New York, New Jersey and Connecticut announced that visitors from Alabama, Arizona, Arkansas, Florida, North Carolina, South Carolina, Texas and Utah will be required to quarantine for two weeks after entering the state.
2. President Trump signed a memo requesting financial assistance for U.S. lobster fishermen to make up for lost income from Chinese tariffs. He tweeted “Pres. Obama destroyed the lobster and fishing industry in Maine. Now it’s back, bigger and better than anyone ever thought possible. Enjoy your “lobstering” and fishing! Make lots of money!.” The Maine lobster haul peaked in 2012 by pound and in 2016 by value when Obama was president.
3. Police in Scarborough, South Portland and Westbrook are investigating a string of robberies. The robberies include Pet Smart on Gallery Boulevard, Subway and Mardens on Payne Road, CVS in Westbrook, and two pharmacies in Scarborough. The three departments are jointly investigating based on similarities.
4. The United States Covid-19 case count tops 2.3 million with nearly 122,000 deaths. Maine reported another death and 23 new cases of COVID-19 on Wednesday, but the number of people who have recovered continues to grow. Maine now has reported 103 deaths since the pandemic began in March. Active cases declined from 449 Tuesday to 424 Wednesday.
5. Guidelines for “Stage 3” of Gov. Mills plan for reopening businesses and activities, which begins on July 1 have been released. Movie theaters, bowling alleys, arcades, performing arts centers and spas will be allowed to reopen with updated safety guidelines.
