1. President Trump signed an executive order to ban all U.S. transactions with ByteDance, the parent company of TikTok, starting in 45 days. TikTok denies that they provide info to the Chinese government. Microsoft is still planning to buy TikTok. (LA TIMES)
2. L.A. Mayor Eric Garcetti has authorized the city to cut power and water to any households having big parties. In Cali, adults ages 18 to 34 make up more than one-third of all infections. LA County cases among adults in their 30s and 40s nearly tripled from the beginning of June. (PEOPLE)
3. The U.S. tops 4.8 million coronavirus cases w/ over 160,000 deaths. The Maine CDC reported 5 new cases of coronavirus on Thursday and no new deaths. The state’s death toll remains at 124 w/ 398 active cases. Massachusetts, New Jersey and Rhode Island have seen significant increases in new daily cases over the past two weeks. (WMTW)
4. Maine residents voted four years ago to allow recreational marijuana sales. The head of the state agency that’s been creating the rules and the systems to run the program says they are just about ready to issue the first batch of active licenses of all types — cultivation, manufacture, testing, and retail sales. 5. Doctors are urging Mainers over the age of 6 months to make sure they get a flu shot this year. The vaccine is expected to be available in Maine in mid-September. The symptoms of the flu and COVID-19 can overlap, and there have been cases of people being infected with both viruses at the same time. (WMTW)
