1. A Portland woman was beaten in the back of the head with a club in another random attack in the city’s West End. This marks the third assault in less than a year in the West End. The suspect in Tuesday night’s attack is still on the loose. (WGME)
2. The U.S. tops 33.4 million covid-19 cases with more than 598,000 related deaths. The Maine CDC reported 3 new deaths and 53 new cases on Wednesday bringing Maine’s death toll to 843 with 56 Mainers hospitalized. More than 54% of Mainers are fully vaccinated. (WMTW)
3. The Maine Department of Education has told school districts that it expects them to offer full-time, in-person learning in the fall. Remaining physical distancing requirements will be relaxed for the next school year. (WMTW)
4. Browntail moths are infesting Southern Maine, the Midcoast and they’re spreading! The caterpillars’ poisonous hairs cause breathing issues and a rash like poison ivy. In Portland’s Deering Oaks Park, signs are alerting people to the pest after nests were found in more than 300 trees. (WGME)
