1. Portland City Council voted 7-2 to repeal the indoor mask mandate, which will end on February 17.
2. Portland City Council voted unanimously to ban flavored tobacco products come June. One of the main reasons for the ban was because of what some say is the tobacco industry’s target on vulnerable communities.
3. Thousands of students have disappeared from Maine’s public schools throughout the pandemic, with enrollment dropping nearly four percent since 2020. There are still about 7,000 fewer students compared to pre-pandemic times.
4. Maine native Emily Sweeney crashed during her second run of the women’s luge on Monday, falling to 28th place and out of medal contention halfway through the event at the Winter Olympics.
