1. Gov. Mills signed the supplemental budget into law yesterday. The $850 relief payments are to Mainers to help with the hi. The payments to an estimated 858,000 Maine people are targeted to begin delivery on June 1. It also provides two years of free community college to pandemic-impacted students.
2. Maine Med still plans to take the state’s largest insurer, Anthem, out of its network. A statement from MaineHealth on Wednesday said “There has been no indication from Anthem that it is prepared to change its business practices in a way that would cause MaineHealth to reconsider its decision.”
3. Netflix’s quarterly report shows the streaming service lost 200,000 subscribers in the first quarter of 2022. It’s their first decline since 2011. The forecast shows Netflix losing another two million subs in the second quarter. The loss is being attributed to a price hike in North America, causing people to ditch the service and the shut off of operations in Russia due to the war in Ukraine.
4. Every year, UMaine students paint themselves green and ride bikes naked for Earth Day. It’s a tradition that stretches back nearly 50 years. Tomorrow is Earth Day!
5. The Boston Celtics rallied from down 17 to take a commanding 2-0 lead against the Brooklyn Nets in the first round of the Eastern Conference Playoffs. Game 3 is Saturday night in Brooklyn.
