1. The Maine CDC reported a total of 209 COVID patients in Maine hospitals on Wednesday morning. The patient count has fluctuated between 207 and 209 since Monday. Over 1/3 of current COVID-19 hospitalizations at MaineHealth are ‘coincidental. (when a patient is admitted to the hospital with a non-COVID-19 ailment, gets tested for COVID-19 while in the hospital, and tests positive.)
2. Westbrook Middle School is moving forward with a plan to ban cell phones for students. The school board made the decision Wednesday night after video of a fight between students circulated on social media.
3. A passenger with no flying experience landed a plane at a Florida airport after the pilot became incapacitated, something that takes about 20 hours to learn with typical flight instruction. Darren Harrison with the help of air traffic controller Robert Morgan learned on the fly and landed the single-engine Cessna perfectly.
4. Scarborough PD were called to the area of Route 1 in Scarborough, spotting a man lying on the side of the road looking down a storm drain. The man had noticed a mother duck with several of her ducklings walking, while the other eight ducklings fell into the drain and were chirping for help. Officers and an employee from the Public Works Department were able to rescue all eight of the ducklings.
