1. A total of 219 people were hospitalized with Covid-19 statewide as of Monday morning. Health officials have said most hospitalized patients are older or have underlying health conditions or are unvaccinated.
2. South Portland High School will continue with remote learning Tuesday during a surge of COVID-19 cases in southern Maine. The SoPo principal blamed staff shortages, saying “so many of us are sick that there are not enough of us to safely supervise the students who are present.”
3. The principal of Lincoln Middle School in Portland has requested a leave of absence following a student protest last week. The protest was organized by students to give voice to their concerns about racist, sexist, homophobic and transphobic experiences they have had while at Lincoln.
4. The city of Portland has been granted $400,000 to buy two pieces of land for a new 24-acre city park in North Deering. Officials said it will offer opportunities for outdoor learning and give a public place for children to explore.
