1. The Portland City Council adopted a $269 million budget Monday night. The city budget includes a 5.5 percent tax rate increase. Between the cost of inflation for the city’s resources and rising numbers of homeless and asylum seekers in Portland, the city says this tax increase was vital.
2. Maine’s COVID-19 hospitalizations declined Monday to, 160, the lowest number of patients in more than a month. The drop in hospitalizations follows a steady drop in new daily cases over the past three weeks.
3. Gasoline prices in Maine hit a historic high this week. The statewide average price for a gallon of regular gasoline hit $4.98 Monday. Nine states already have average gasoline prices above $5 a gallon. Analysts expect Maine to join that club soon.
4. During Monday’s WorldWide Developers Conference, Apple announced the upcoming ability to edit and unsend messages up to 15 minutes later. The new update will be a part of the iOS 16 software that will be released later this year.
