1. Derek Chauvin was sentenced to 21 years in federal prison for violating George Floyd’s civil rights during his murder. Prosecutors had asked for 25 years, while Chauvin’s defense attorneys had asked for 20 years.
2. On Thursday, Boris Johnson stepped down after three years. There have been several scandals surrounding Johnson, but appointing a politician accused of sexual misconduct was the last straw for many in his party. In his resignation speech, Johnson said, “Them’s the breaks.”
3. James Caan passed away on Wednesday at the age of 82. Caan was an Oscar and Golden Globe nominee with roles in classics like The Godfather, Thief, Misery, Elf, and Brian’s Song. He also starred in the long-running television series, Las Vegas.
4. The Moxie Festival kicks off today. Each year, the town of Lisbon celebrates the distinctive drink with fireworks, a car show, a 5K road race for charity and even a Moxie chugging contest. Organizers are hoping for a pre-pandemic-like 20,000 visitors for the festival this year.
