1. In a letter to the Portland City Council Monday, Mayor Kate Snyder announced she will not be seeking re-election in 2023. She shared that information to show re-election will not influence her positions on upcoming ballot measures, one of which would give more power to Portland’s mayor.
2. J’s Oyster in Portland called for a boycott of Whole Foods Sunday over claims the grocery store chain is no longer selling live lobster. Whole Foods did decide back in 2006 to stop selling live lobster. The only exception is the Portland location.
3. The South Portland school board passed a new, much more extensive, dress code. Anything with profanity, hate speech, drugs or alcohol or exposes specific areas of a student’s body is not allowed. The new guidelines also say students cannot have wearable technology that is disruptive to the school environment, which could include things like Apple Watches, Fitbits or headphones.
4. Nonbinary athletes will be able to run in next year’s Boston Marathon without having to register as members of the men’s or women’s divisions, race organizers announced Monday.
5. Blaze Pizza, a national chain of fast-casual pizza restaurants, says it will soon be opening its first locations in Maine. The brand says the locations will be in Westbrook, Brunswick and Portland.
