1. After only six weeks in the position British Prime Minister Liz Truss resigned on Thursday. She will remain on the job until a new leader is in place. Her economic plan was seen as disastrous by many. The British pound plunged in value during her brief reign. The resignation means that Truss will be the shortest-serving Prime Minister in British history.
2. The CDC’s advisory committee voted unanimously to add the Covid-19 vaccine to the recommended immunization schedule for children and adults. This vaccine recommendation acts as guidance for school districts as they determine which vaccines should be required for students.
3. Enrollment at Central Maine Community College has rebounded from the pandemic with a record number of students attending classes this fall. CMCC announced that 3,372 students are enrolled at the school, up about 150 students from the previous all-time high in 2019. The state’s tuition scholarship for recent graduates helped boost CMCC’s numbers.
4. Ryan Boucher of Greene and his hunting party were stoked when he shot a bull moose. When they began to take the hide off the animal they immediately noticed that something was wrong. “It was yellow all the way through, from head to toe,” said Boucher, who explained that the butcher was startled to find the bone marrow resembled yellow Jell-O. A moose biologist called it a rare condition that develops from the breakdown of red blood cells.
5. Four Maine students are preparing to take part in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade this year. They will be part of the “Macy’s Great American Marching Band.” The four students are banner carrier Elana Bennard, dancer Sienna Graham, member of the color guard Natalie Blaisdell and clarinetist Sam Coleman. The students are expected to be performing live for at least 3 million people, with another 20 million watching on TV.
