1. No debris has been recovered from the three unknown aerial objects that were shot down by U.S. jets in recent days.  The White House said Tuesday that a “leading explanation” is that the objects were “benign” commercial or research balloons. (JN)

2. Governor Mills vowed to invest in more housing, health care and free community college in her annual address to the state.  Republican lawmakers presented a pre-recorded response criticizing Mills for not cutting any taxes. (WGME)

3. A bill being debated in Augusta would make reusable and disposable diapers tax-free. Families pay about $900 each year in diapers for an infant. That’s around $50 a year just in sales tax.  No other New England states charge tax on diapers. (WGME)

4. Breeze Airways announced service from the Portland Jetport. They will offer year-round flights from Portland to Charleston and Tampa. Plus summer service to Norfolk and Pittsburgh. Introductory fares start at $39 through Feb. 20. (WMTW)

5. The Maine Bureau of Motor Vehicles released its proposal for a new standard license plate on Tuesday.  The design, based on the 1901 Maine flag, would replace the current chickadee plate. The chickadee design was first issued in 1999. (WGME)
