1. Former reality TV show host Donald Trump said in a video posted to his Truth Social platform that he had been indicted by a federal grand jury on charges related to the mishandling of classified documents discovered at Mar-a-Lago. Reports say he faces seven criminal charges, including one conspiracy count. Trump called the charges a politically motivated “hoax.” (JN)
2. Orono public library has created the “Banned Book Club.” They meet once a month to read and discuss books that have been banned and challenged around the country and in Maine. It’s open to kids from the 8th grade through high school. Lindsay Varnum, the youth services librarian in Orono, says it shouldn’t be controversial for kids to learn about people who are different from them. (WGME)
3. Maine State police are pushing for a change in the current sticker system that would move Maine’s inspection process into the 21st century. Every time you get a car inspection an electronic system streamlines the process, but there’s a catch, it would cost you more for a yearly inspection. There’s bipartisan support for a bill that would raise the cost of your inspection for Cumberland County residents, up to $20. (WGME)
4. The Portland Sea Dogs will once again transform into the Maine Whoopie Pies today. As part of the festivities, the Sea Dogs in partnership with the Maine Whoopie Pie Festival, and Wicked Whoopies will attempt to create a Guinness World Record for the longest line of whoopie pies. (WGME)
5. Taco Bell’s popular Crunchwrap now has a vegan version. The restaurant is testing the meatless meal at one of its Cantina locations in Hollywood, California. The vegan Crunchwrap contains seasoned beef made from peas and soy, vegan nacho sauce, and a vegan blanco sauce. (OC)
