1. The gunman who killed five people and injured 19 others at Club Q in Colorado Springs, Colorado in 2022, was sentenced to more than 2,208 years in prison on Monday after pleading guilty to five counts of first-degree murder and 46 counts of attempted murder. (JN)
2. Governor Janet Mills signed a bill into law Monday that decriminalizes “engaging in prostitution,” meaning the sellers won’t be penalized but the buyers still would be. The bill also toughens language on child sex trafficking and elevates soliciting a child for “commercial sexual exploitation” from a Class D crime to Class C. (WGME)
3. The Biden administration is sending $272 million to Maine to expand high-speed internet in the state and bring broadband to 94,000 homes and businesses that lack reliable service. More than $42 billion has been allocated nationwide to expand high-speed internet access, and Maine’s share is the largest of any state in New England. (PH)
4. Portland city councilors voted Monday to indefinitely postpone action on the 2 day music festival that was proposed for Payson Park. It was expected to draw between 10,000 and 20,000 people per day. The sponsor let the Department of Parks, Recreation & Facilities know it would not be moving forward with the festival. (PH)
5. Cape Elizabeth’s roaming ram is no longer on the lam. Sheep wool was placed in the area of Two Lights State Park. The intent of the wool was for the ram to think other sheep were in the area so he would stay put. A team of volunteers were able to find the ram and use a tranquilizer gun to sedate him. (WGME)
