1. Tuesday night, Maine’s House voted to pass the new bill that would expand access to abortion any time before birth, including after the point of viability at 24 weeks of pregnancy. If it passes next week’s Senate vote and is signed by the governor, Maine would have the least restrictive abortion laws in the country. (WMTW)
2. Police in Windham are investigating two incidents of vandalism that they say are both hate crimes. On June 4, a racial slur was spray painted on Windham Center Road, and then on June 25, the same slur, as well as a swastika, was painted on another section of the same road. Police believe there is more than one person responsible. (WMTW)
3. South Portland voted to use the Main Street Howard Johnson as a temporary shelter just days before the expiration of the city’s existing arrangement with local hotels to serve as shelters. (WMTW)
4. Curbside recycling is coming to an end today in Auburn. Moving forward, residents will be able to drop their recyclable items off at Auburn Public Works. The Auburn Mayor said collecting recycling uses a lot of gas and manpower for the roughly 7 percent of residents who are recycling. (WGME)
5. Bon Appetit listed the top 24 best bagel bakeries outside of New York. The list includes Rose Foods on Forest Avenue in Portland and Rover Bagel in Biddeford. Bagelsaurus of Cambridge, Massachusetts, was the only other honoree from New England to make the bagel roundup. (PH)
