1. Tuesday set an unofficial record for the hottest day on Earth. Today we may break it. The National Weather Service has issued the first heat advisories of the season for a large chunk of Maine. Hot temps combined with humidity will cause the heat index to approach 100 degrees from the early afternoon to evening. (PH)
2. A woman who went missing for a week was found alive after being stuck in mud inside Massachusetts’ Borderlands State Park for several days. Emma Tetewsky, 31, was found after hikers heard her cries for help. Officials believe Tetewsky was trapped in the mud for at least three days. She was sent to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries. (BH)
3. Christmas Tree Shops disclosed in a court filing last week that it defaulted on a $45 million loan and is closing its roughly 70 stores in the coming weeks. (CNN)
4. Bayside Bowl, a 20-lane bowling center and restaurant in Portland’s Bayside neighborhood, plans to add a second location in South Portland where Sea Dog Brewing closed an alley-eatery three months ago. Dubbed Broadway Bowl, the new branch will have 10 lanes and offer a food menu and amenities similar to those at Bayside Bowl. (PH)
5. Facebook and Instagram’s parent company, Meta, has launched a new Twitter-like app called Threads. The app went live on Wednesday night. Threads is linked to Instagram, and you can use your IG credentials and handle to choose who you want to follow on the new app. The app looks and feels a lot like Twitter. If you’re blocked on Instagram, you’ll also be blocked on Threads. (Mashable)
