1. Conception, a San Fran biotech startup, is developing technology to make lab-grown human eggs. Conception aims to “eliminate barriers for couples suffering from infertility, and potentially allow male-male couples to have biological children.” (JN)
2. Back in May a bill was passed to raise the minimum starting salary for Maine teachers from around $40,000 to $50,000. But now there’s no money for it. Facing a shortage of educators the President of the Maine Education Association is working with lawmakers to get the bill funded sooner than later. In Maine the average salary for teachers is the lowest in New England. (WGME)
3. Major flooding has been seen all across the northeast. Several areas in Oxford County that saw some of the heaviest rainfall on Sunday. Flash flooding broke through the pavement on High Street in South Paris. Authorities are monitoring the Saco River in Fryeburg today. It’s expected to crest at 10 feet and eight feet is where the flood risk is set at. (WGME)
4. Despite the rain, more than 1,000 athletes swam and ran during the 16th annual all-women Tri for a Cure at SMCC Sunday. The bike portion was called off. The Maine Cancer Foundation said nearly $2 Million was raised this year. (PH)
5. Powerball’s jackpot for tonight has grown to $900 million, or more than $465 million if you win and take the lump sum prize. Tonight’s drawing is the third largest Powerball jackpot and the seventh largest US lottery jackpot overall. (CNN)
