1. Maine Native Jeffrey Jones was killed while fighting in the Ukraine. His father said “I’m proud of Jeff for joining the Ukrainian Army. I resisted and advised him to stick with humanitarian efforts. However, he was not happy with that. He wanted to serve the people of Ukraine, particularly the children.” The family is working with the U.S. Embassy so Jeff’s ashes can be returned to the U.S. The family is hoping to have a celebration of his life sometime next summer at the family cottage in Harpswell. 2. Former reality tv show host Donald Trump resumed campaigning yesterday in New Hampshire. Trump accused President Biden of ordering his Attorney General to bring federal charges against him, because, he said, Trump is leading Biden in polls. Trump’s rally started at 2:30pm in a Windham High gym. Supporters were lined up 6 hours early. (WMTW)
3. According to the Maine Department of Labor the number of Maine teens injured in the workplace has more than doubled over the last 10 years. The overall number of violations involving youth workers also has increased. The rise seems to be linked to increasing numbers of businesses relying more on teen workers. (PH)
4. The United States Geological Survey says a 2.5 magnitude earthquake was recorded in the Turner area last night. Slightly larger than the 2.3 magnitude earthquake Taylor Swift’s concert caused in Seattle last month. Residents of Turner, Greene, Buckfield and Livermore reportedly felt the quake around 6pm.
