1. White House officials confirm that President Joe Biden and First Lady Jill Biden will be traveling to Maine on Friday, Nov. 3. According to a statement the president and first lady will “pay respects to the victims of this horrific attack and grieve with families and community members, as well as meet with first responders, nurses and others on the front lines of the response.” (WMTW)
2. Gov. Janet Mills announced Wednesday that she is creating an independent commission to investigate the events leading up to last week’s mass shooting in Lewiston, including multiple warnings about the accused shooter and the police response to the attacks. They’ve faced tough questions about how they responded to the shooting, including waiting 12 hours to search an area around where the shooter’s vehicle was found abandoned and where police ultimately found his body. 3. Hundreds were in attendance as Lewiston hosted rival Edward Little for “The Battle of the Bridge” last night. A pregame ceremony featured a singing of the national anthem by six-time Grammy Award winner James Taylor. The names of the 18 who were killed in the Lewiston shootings were read as fans paused in silence, and the first responders who were on scene a week ago were recognized. Will Ferrell, Gronk, Mac Jones, and Bob Kraft provided video messages of support to the high school football teams and community. Lewiston beat Edward Little, 34-18. (WMTW)
4. The Texas Rangers won the World Series championship on Wednesday night. The Rangers defeated the Arizona Diamondbacks 5-0 in Game 5 to win the series 4 – 1. The World Series win gives the franchise its first title in the 63-year existence of the club. (ESPN)
