1. Portland Police located a stolen vehicle that was carjacked at gunpoint and detained seven juveniles in relation to the crime. The search started after a 75-year-old driver was held at gunpoint at NorthGate Shopping Center on Thursday evening. (WMTW)
2. The Wiscasset School Committee will hold a closed-door meeting today to discuss the future of Principal Gina Stevens, who was placed on paid leave over the installation of a “hidden” camera monitoring the food pantry at Wiscasset Middle High School. Stevens said the camera was installed after the school’s food pantry was broken into multiple times. Superintendent Kim Andersson said she did not approve the installation. 25 school staff members wrote a public letter in support of Stevens. (PH)
3. Seasonal worker visas are expected to double helping to boost Maine’s hospitality industry. Sens. Angus King and Susan Collins say they’ve worked with federal officials to secure over 64,000 additional H2-B visas to help businesses struggling with workforce shortages. (PH)
4. The Lewiston-Auburn community came together to support victims of the Lewiston mass shooting by holding a benefit softball tournament on Saturday. Two of the victims, Joe Walker and Ron Morin, were beloved members of the Lewiston-Auburn softball community. Walker was an umpire with the Maine Amateur Softball Association and Morin was a player. Lewiston native, Patrick Dempsey, fresh off his crowning as “Sexiest Man Alive” by People Magazine also played in the tournament. (WMTW)
5. Lewiston beat Deering 3-2 in overtime of the Boys Class A State Championship. “We have been saying the past few weeks, ‘Do it for the city,’” Lewiston goalie Payson Goyette said. “It feels great to win for the city and bring some good to the city.” (PH)
