1. As of 7AM this morning there were just under 100,000 CMP customers still without power from Monday’s storm. The restoration effort is expected to last all week in some areas, as flooding remains a significant threat and temperatures are lowering today. The storm has claimed the lives of at least three people, and another person remains missing after the vehicle they were traveling in was swept away in the town of Mexico. (PH)
2. Maine Secretary of State Shenna Bellows is delaying her decision on whether former Reality TV host Donald Trump qualifies for the Maine presidential primary ballot. Bellows announced the Colorado Supreme Court’s ruling has delayed her own decision. She expects to have a final decision next week. (WMTW)
3. Cyber security experts are warning people about a scam called “card draining”. Scammers will replace a barcode on the back of a gift card with a card they have. So while you’re buying that card and adding value to it, you’re actually adding value to the scammer’s card. They are also stealing info from a store’s gift card and putting it back on the shelf. Then the thieves steal any value you add to that card before your recipient gets it. To protect your gift card, buy directly from the retailer online or thoroughly check the packaging of any card you may buy in store. (NN)
4. The Sunday River ski resort in Newry plans to reopen Saturday after being hit hard by Monday’s storm. Vacationers were impacted after the only road leading to the Grand Summit Hotel was washed away, leaving guests stranded. (WGME)
