1. A total solar eclipse is coming to Maine soon. On April 8, the sun’s rays will be blocked out by the moon’s shadow in the afternoon. The path of totality goes right over western and northern Maine around 3:30pm and will bring a sight that many have not seen in their entire lives. The last solar eclipse in the U.S. was August 21, 2017. (NCM)
2. A group of UNE students is Super Bowl bound. Four sports management students will head to Las Vegas to take part in the “Super Bowl Experience” across the street from Allegiant Stadium. UNE says the students will be managing fan experiences and networking with sport management students from across the country. The students leave Wednesday morning out of Boston. (WGME)
3. Portland Downtown is celebrating 207 Day this week with a virtual self-guided scavenger hunt to generate some foot traffic in the winter. 4. You’ll soon have to start paying taxes on funds you receive from apps like Venmo and CashApp. Companies are now required to send you a 1099-K form if you’ve collected $600 or more. However, for the 2024 tax season, the IRS plans to drop the threshold to $5,000 before eventually moving it to $600. (NN)
5.The 2026 FIFA World Cup Final will be played at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey on July 19. FIFA announced the tournament schedule on Sunday. It was a fight between MetLife and AT&T Stadium in Dallas for the final. FIFA gave Dallas the most matches with nine. MetLife will host eight, including the biggest prize of them all. (CBS)
