1. Lisa Lopez-Galvan, on-air personality at radio station KKFI, was killed in the shooting that took place at the Kansas City Chiefs’ Super Bowl celebration on Wednesday. The radio station posted a message on Facebook that said, “It is with sincere sadness and an extremely heavy and broken heart that we let our community know that KKFI DJ Lisa Lopez, host of Taste of Tejano lost her life today in the shooting at the KC Chiefs’ rally. Our hearts and prayers are with her family.” A friend for decades said “She was the most wonderful, beautiful person. She was a local DJ. She did everybody’s weddings. We all know her. She was so full of life.” A motive for the shooting remains unclear. More than 20 others were injured including 9 children. (People)
2. North Atlantic Right Whale found dead near Martha’s Vineyard on Jan. 28 had a fishing rope from Maine entangled around and embedded in its tail. North Atlantic right whales are approaching extinction, with approximately 360 individuals remaining, including fewer than 70 reproductively active females. This is the first reported entanglement of a right whale in Maine lobster gear in 20 years and the first death attributed to the fishery. (WMTW)

Senator Angus King is urging the Department of Transportation to keep humorous highway signs.In a letter to Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg, King says the clever messages get the message across. The U.S. Federal Highway administration “recommended” states avoid such humor on signs. (WGME)
4. The Portland Sea Dogs are honoring the legacy of Kevin Fahrman by hosting a Valentine’s Day Bandit Night on April 30. As part of the festivities, the Sea Dogs will be hosting a blood drive in partnership with the Red Cross at Hadlock Field. The night will also feature Fahrman’s favorite music throughout the game. The Sea Dogs open their season on April 5. (WGME)
