1. A person from York County has died from Powassan virus, the first deadly case of the infection in Maine this year. The CDC says cases of Powassan are rare in the United States. Maine identified a record number of seven cases of Powassan in 2023. You contract Powassan through the bite of an infected deer or woodchuck tick. (WMTW)
2. Mayor David Morse hosted a rooftop ribbon-cutting ceremony on Thursday afternoon for Westbrook’s new downtown parking garage. The garage has more than 400 free parking spaces, which are available 24/7, and kept safe with lighting and security. Morse says the parking garage is part of a bigger plan for the city’s growth.
