1. On the first day of the Republican National Convention, Donald Trump chose Ohio Senator JD Vance as his running mate. Vance was endorsed by Trump in 2022 to win the Senate seat. Vance was a critic of Trump during the 2016 election. Vance was a voice in the “Never Trump” movement, and interviews and tweets from that time showed he wasn’t a supporter. (CNN)
2. This November, voters will be asked if they want to go back to the 1901 version of Maine’s state flag. People can submit up to three versions of what they think the model flag should like. The deadline is Friday at 5pm. Maine Secretary of State Shenna Bellows hopes to make a decision on the design by early August. (WGME)

4. Big G’s Deli, a central Maine restaurant known for its big sandwiches, has permanently closed. A message on the deli’s website states that its 200-seat restaurant in Winslow had closed as of Sunday. (WMTW)
