1. President Joe Biden is ending his bid for reelection. Biden announced his decision via a press release on X, formerly known as Twitter. In a follow-up post, Biden threw support behind Vice President Kamala Harris. (WMTW)
2. A group of teens were “ding dong ditching houses” when one homeowner opened the door and started shooting in the town of Harrison. One teen was shot in the leg, causing serious but non-life-threatening injuries. The homeowner was arrested. (WGME)
3. The LAP, a new commuter bus service between Lewiston-Auburn and Portland, will begin operating today. The pilot bus service will cost $8 one way and include several runs daily from 4:30 a.m. to midnight Monday through Friday and from 6 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. on weekends. (PH)
4. A 8 foot long juvenile great white shark that has been spotted around the Maine coast for the last few days including a confirmed sighting off the coast of Scarborough. No beach closings have been reported but officials say you should always swim close to shore, stay in groups, avoid swimming in areas close to seals or fish, limit splashing, and avoid swimming at dawn or dusk when light is low, and sharks are actively feeding. 5. The Lincoln Loon Festival, the town’s biggest event of the year, kicked off Saturday and lasts Tuesday, featuring live music, local food, artisans, and competitions. The festival has been going on for 50 years. Maine has more common loons than any other state in the Eastern U.S., with a population that has doubled over the past four decades. (NCM)
