1. Vice President Kamala Harris will travel to the greater Portsmouth area on Wednesday for a campaign event. Details have not yet been made public. This will mark the first visit by Harris to New Hampshire since the spring of 2021. (WMTW)
2. Dave Tapley, an off-duty Kennebunk firefighter, rescued a swimmer in Cape Cod over the weekend. He spotted a woman holding an unconscious man while in Dyer Pond. Tapley performed CPR. By the time local emergency services arrived on the scene, the rescued swimmer had a pulse and was conscious. He’s expected to make a full recovery without any neural defects. (WMTW)
3. Portland had its second-warmest summer on record with an average of 69.2 degrees Fahrenheit throughout June, July and August. That’s 2.5 degrees above Portland’s normal summer temp. Statewide, Maine experienced the warmest June and July on record. (PH)
4. Belfast lobster, Passey Pete, emerged from Penobscot Bay on Monday and was presented with two scrolls, one declaring six more weeks of summer and one declaring an early winter. The scroll Passy Pete selected said, “If you have taken care of your crops and restocked your shops, an early winter is nothing to fear.” (NCM)
5. Joey Chestnut and Kobayashi, two of the best competitive eaters, faced off on Labor Day. Chestnut devoured a world record-breaking 83 hot dogs and buns in 10 minutes. Kobayashi ate 66 dogs during the contest. The holiday showdown was the first hot dog matchup between Chestnut and Kobayashi in 15 years. (USAToday)
