1. The Walmart Supercenter in Augusta is back open after it was evacuated Thursday afternoon due to a bomb threat. The investigation into the bomb threat, however, remains ongoing. (WMTW)
2. Mt. Ararat High School in Mid-Coast Maine went into a shelter-in-place on Thursday after a potential threat about a school shooting was made online. The threat was determined to be not credible. This is the fourth Maine school district to deal with a threat this week alone. (WMTW)
3. Trump says he will not debate Harris again before the election. The Republican presidential candidate posted Thursday on Truth Social that ‘THERE WILL BE NO THIRD DEBATE!’ (PH)
4. Maine is among 42 states calling for a Surgeon General’s warning on social media. In a signed letter to Congress, the attorneys general say research shows social media algorithms are to blame for “psychological harm, including depression, anxiety and even suicidal thoughts in kids and teens.” (WGME)
5. The Maine Department of Agriculture, Conservation and Forestry has declared the official start of the 2024 foliage season. Experts are predicting a season for the record books. The mountains of Maine and New Hampshire should peak between October 5 and 13. Down near the coastline and southern New Hampshire, look for peak leaves in the last week of October before Halloween.
