1. Police say 41-year-old Ryan Simpson of Portland crashed his truck at the Exit 45 northbound toll in South Portland Wednesday before taking off into the woods with his dog. Simpson reached the intersection of the Turnpike Spur and Maine Mall Road, he tried to get in the passenger side of a car that was stopped at a red light. The door was locked, and a trooper used his taser to stop Simpson and take him into custody. Simpson is facing multiple charges. (WGME)
2. For the first time in more than four years the Federal Reserve on Wednesday cut its benchmark interest rate by an unusually large half-point. The central bank’s action lowered its key rate to roughly 4.8%, down from a two-decade high of 5.3%. (WMTW)
3. Phoenix, Arizona has seen more rainfall this month than Portland, Maine. Maine is experiencing it’s second driest start to September on record. Rivers and streams have lowered and laws have turned brown. (WGME)
4. After years of financial trouble, Tupperware, the plastic food storage company has entered Chapter 11 bankruptcy. For years, Tupperware was sold exclusively at “parties.” The business model was one of the earliest breakthroughs for women to enter the sales force. Tupperware finally started selling products at Target in 2022, but other brands had already made more eco-friendly containers accessible to a mass audience. (CNN)
