1. President Biden announced a half-dozen executive actions to combat what he called an “epidemic and an international embarrassment” of gun violence in America. Biden’s new steps include a move to crack down on “ghost guns,” homemade firearms that lack serial numbers. (NEWS CENTER)

2. The U.S. tops 31 million covid-19 cases with more than 560,000 related deaths. The Maine CDC reported 1 new death and 319 new cases on Thursday bringing Maine’s death toll to 748 with 78 Mainers currently hospitalized. (WMTW)

3. One in four Mainers have received their final dose of a COVID-19, vaccine, according to the Maine CDC. People are considered fully vaccinated against COVID-19 two weeks after receiving their final dose. (WMTW)

4. UMaine football’s final two opponents have opted out of the season. UNH & URI cut their season short due to ongoing covid issues with the programs. (WGME)

5. Maine schools are allowed to welcome back fans for the spring sports season. Winter high school sports were held without spectators. It’s up to each school district to decide whether to allow them. Reduced capacity, social distancing, and a mask mandate will be in place. (WMTW)
