1. Flags will fly at half-staff across Maine through Monday to honor the service members and civilians killed in attacks in Kabul, Afghanistan. The death toll in the Kabul airport attack is at least 100 as evacuations resume today.
2. Maine reported 390 new COVID-19 cases Thursday and 133 people hospitalized, the highest numbers since early May.
3. The Lewiston School Committee voted to require masks in city schools. The committee also unanimously approved pooled testing to monitor students and staff for COVID-19.
4. Move in day! Yesterday was the first move-in day for Maine’s second largest public university, USM. Students who intend to live in a dorm, take class in person or participate in activities must be vaccinated by Oct. 15 or they will be asked to study remotely and could lose on-campus housing.
