1. FBI agents arrested Kyle Fitzsimons, 37, of Lebanon yesterday in connection with last month’s riots at the U.S. Capitol. Fitzsimons is charged with assault on a federal police officer, knowingly entering or remaining in a restricted building without lawful authority, violent entry and disorderly conduct on Capitol grounds, and attempting to obstruct law enforcement during a civil disorder. Surveillance footage, contained in court documents, shows Fitzsimons engaging with officers. Portland police also said that Fitzsimons is a person of interest in their investigation into a suspicious package that was left near the Portland Museum of Art on Jan. 23. (PRESS HERALD)
2. Former reality TV show host Donald Trump will not testify in his Senate impeachment trial as requested by House impeachment managers. Trump’s attorney David Schoen called the House request a “public relations stunt.” (IG)
3. The U.S. tops 26.6 million covid-19 cases with over 455,000 deaths. The Maine CDC reported 3 new deaths and 301 new cases on Thursday bringing Maine’s death toll to 630. Over 43,000 Mainers have received both doses of their vaccination. (WMTW)
4. The first mass COVID-19 vaccination clinic in York County is expected to open on February 15th in the former Marshalls in Sanford. Depending on availability, the hope is the clinic can eventually vaccinate 1,000 people a day. (WMTW)
5. You might spot as many as 30 youngsters from Connors Elementary School in Lewiston sitting in the stands for Super Bowl LV. As part of a Big Brothers Big Sisters initiative and because of limited fan capacity, the students submitted self-portraits to be made into cutouts that will be placed throughout the stadium.
