1. Maine’s seven-day average of new daily Covid-19 cases rose to 70. Maine’s uptick in cases is still far lower than increases experienced in other parts of the country. Missouri, Arkansas and Louisiana – are seeing huge spikes. (PRESS HERALD)

2. An electrical fire broke out Sunday on the third floor of Westbrook High School. The cause of the fire was improper use of an extension cord with a window air conditioner. (PRESS HERALD)

3. Maine is the first state in the nation with a text message system that distributes emergency alerts to the public when drug overdoses increase. You can sign up for the alerts by texting the word “Spike” to (855) 963-5669. Alerts are triggered by three reported overdoses in a 24-hour period in a single county. (WGME)

4. Maine set a new record for adult use cannabis sales in June. Retail dispensaries brought in $6.5 million last month. The previous record was set in May at $5.3 million. Revenues have increased every month since adult use sales began in Oct. 2020. (WMTW)

5. The US Men’s Basketball team lost to France in their first Olympic contest on Sunday. The L broke the US Men’s Olympic winning streak at 25 games. The squad hasn’t lost at the Olympics since 2004. If they can win their next two games, they will advance to the medal round. (NY POST)
