1. Health officials say the delta variant of the coronavirus continues to surge and accounts for an estimated 83% of U.S. COVID-19 cases. (News Center)

2. Maine’s seven-day daily case average has increased to 49, compared with 20 cases on average just weeks ago. Dr. Shah said “The increase in Maine is thankfully less than the weight of the increase in the rest of the country … and that’s no doubt a function of our very high vaccination rate.” (Press Herald)

3. Professional soccer to Maine? USL to Portland has identified two potential stadium sites (Fitzpatrick Stadium and Preble Street Field) and appeared before the Housing and Community Development Committee Tuesday evening seeking direction on which one it should pursue. They will not seek taxpayer funding for a stadium, which is expected to cost $8 million to $12 million. (Press Herald)

4. The Portland Sea Dogs won their 14th consecutive game Tuesday night. Chris Sale tossed 3 2/3 hitless innings in a MLB rehab start for the Sea Dogs. Sale struck out six and walked one. (WGME)

5. Giannis Antetokounmpo scored 50 points in the Milwaukee Bucks first NBA Finals Championship win in 50 years last night. Giannis won the NBA Finals MVP Award. (CBS)
